The Minus 5 Oars On to Portland TWICE
The Minus 5 just released their new album, Oar On, Penelope! on Yep Roc Records. The band features its creator, songwriter, singer, guitarist, Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), along with Kurt Bloch (The Fastbacks, Young Fresh Fellows), Peter Buck (R.E.M.), Debbi Peterson (The Bangles), and Linda Pitman (Baseball Project, Filthy Friends). It's a star-studded line-up of truly talented musicians and as a bonus the legendary, Ed Stasium (The Ramones, The Replacements, Taking Heads) added his engineering skills to the project. The result.
Oar On, Penelope! is a GREAT rock album.
The Minus 5 are known for making great rock records, but this one has a new dynamic with that addition of Debbi Peterson. Debbi is best known for her drumming and harmonies in the Bangles, but with this project her singing voice adds a wonderful new dimension to the bands already powerful sound.
To promote the record, The Minus 5 are on tour and treated Portland not once but twice.
The group first made an appearance at Portland's beloved, Music Millennium music store on May 28 for a stripped down, acoustic set and autograph signing giving fans a chance to get the new record before its release date of May 30.
The Minus 5 returned to play a SOLD-OUT show at Mississippi Studios on June 6. The shows set list would feature numerous new album tracks and the show would also include some cool covers with songs from The Dwight Tilley Band, Buffalo Springfield, and Neil Young to name a few.
Scott (The Hoople) McCaughey. You did it again.
I would highly recommend Oar On, Penelope! While many use apps like Spotify, I would also recommend BUYING this media (vinyl/cd) to support valuable stores like Music Millennium or organizations like Bandcamp that truly give the revenue directly to cool bands like the Minus 5.
Thanks to the Minus 5 for rocking Portland not once but twice. Oar On, Minus 5!
