Tangerine Dream, August 19th at The Get Down - Preview

When bands on tour say, “We’ll be back,” in your city, it’s a bold promise that must be honored lest they draw the ire of their fans. Back in September 2023 at Revolution Hall, after taking us on a journey through atmospheric worlds of cinematic synths, Tangerine Dream bandleader Thorsten Quaeschnin uttered these same three words to the audience “We’ll be back.” Three words and almost three years later and Tangerine Dream have honored their promise and returned to Portland on the Continuum Tour. Inviting fans to a very intimate performance at The Get Down on August 19^th, where they have scaled down their performance for your sonic enjoyment.

You will be even closer this time around to their vast array of electronics fluttering the air all around you, bathing your ears in 80s movie themes and celestial soundscapes. This show is a rare opportunity as there won’t be a single bad place to stand at The Get Down when those synths start singing. And with the Get Down’s open floor you may even exercise your right to dance to TD rather than sit in a chair as was their last performance in Portland.

The Continuum Tour represents a conscious effort for TD to progress as a band and at the same time honor the legacy that was built by founding members like Edgar Froese. And to do this the shift from relying on the band’s past accomplishments to the new direction of Thorsten Quaeschnin must be a gradual one rather than an abrupt one. Quaeschnin and company have no interest in rocking the boat, but rather steering it into new horizons of the virtually limitless palette of sound that is a synthesizer, and this tour is their first step forward. 

Tangerine Dream’s most recent release From Virgin To Quantum Years: Coventry Cathedral 22 is a live recording of the band’s performance on March 11, 2022 in England. Making it the perfect release to listen to and get you warmed up for their performance at The Get Down.
