Angine de Poitrine are a Canadian rock duo that includes members Khn de Poitrine on guitar/bass and Klek de Poitrine on drums. The group will get your attention with their unique look and polka dotted style, but will hold your attention with their brilliant, microtonal sound. The band went viral after a live performance that aired on KEXP. At the time, the band was still an unsigned band, and new fans began fighting to get their hands on their music. Their first release, Vol. 1 (2024) became in high demand and the first pressing of that record, one that only had 200 made has sold as high as a staggering $2,189 dollars. You can say this band is on the rise.
With the sudden surge of new fans, Angine de Poitrine would release their eagerly awaited, follow-up album, Vol. II was released earlier this year and the duo would then embark on their first ever world tour. Portland would get one of their first United States shows here at the Aladdin Theater. With this massive interest in the group, tickets were NOT easy to get. With the frustrating ways our concert buying process works nowadays, most fans were left out in the cold as the "bots"/scalpers would snag up most tickets for third party reselling sites. I personally saw tickets for this show go as high as $1500 on one of the reselling sites and other tickets sold for good money. It's ridiculous and unfair to music fans.
When the time finally came for the show, Portland fans were ready. From the talk in line, there were a few people that managed to get the $35 face value tickets honestly when they went on sale while the rest of the majority purchased reseller tickets just to be there. Some fans waited at will call with hope of any last-minute tickets being released while other fans walked back and forth with cash in hand hoping to score someone's extra tickets just to get in. There was a real excitement for this show. There hasn't been a group that caused a stir like this in a long time or one that have had this level of interest, excitement and hype.
Angine de Poitrine's music may have its microtonal smarts, but it's also really refreshing. It really nice to see a group come along and bring something new to our eyes and ears. Their recorded music has its structure, sound, but live the music is let loose. Khn de Poitrine's playing and technical smarts impress while Klek de Poitrine lays down some heavy beats. The two have a real chemistry onstage that sparked some great improvisational moments. A few Aladdin Theater show highlights were "Fabienk" and the show closer, "Sherpa", which rocked live.
The Aladdin show was a unique, high energy, and impressive introduction to their live shows. A Angine de Poitrine show is truly unlike any other show out there. It's not easy to sum up their show in a few words, but one to simply experience for yourself. The group is coming back in a few months to play Portland's Crystal Ballroom on December 10 and 11th. Like this Aladdin show, those shows sold out in record time and remain the hot tickets to get as well. Past that, it will be interesting to see where Angine de Poitrine goes next, what a "Vol. III" will sound like and see just how far this group can go as artists. Angine de Poitrine is a group music has needed for a while. As things in music were getting a little boring, they arrived to make things interesting again. The word is spreading about them, and more are taking notice. Angine de Poitrine is one band to watch and one to definitely see live.
