JoJo with Emmy Meli at Roseland Theater on 03/09/2025

By CHRISTINA HALL // JoJo shared that this was a year of vulnerability and how it's a great way to find that others feel the same way and that you are not alone

JoJo made her way back to Portland, Oregon at the Roseland Theater. Fans were lined up to enter an unusually fuller venue for supporting act, Emmy Meli.

Emmy performed her entire set slowing down once or twice for a sip of water. Her voice complimented Jojos with a playful R&B/pop sound. She played a few newer songs from her upcoming album, "God's Favorite", out on March 14. Her whistle high register, sing-along, and conversation engaged the crowd, ending with the viral I AM WOMAN.

The stage was unusually set up with the drum kit set high on the left side of the stage with a ramp down the side to stage level. An all-women band took to the stage before JoJo appeared at the top as a light shined down on her. She started her set with 'off again' and engaged with the crowd in such an authentic way. I love you's were passed back and forth between the crowd and the stage.

JoJo shared that this was a year of vulnerability and how it's a great way to find that others feel the same way and that you are not alone. She shared after 'Dissolve' that the song was meant for when you need to just step away so you can feel emotions. There was a short medical emergency that paused the show and the keyboardist filled the silence while the person got the help they needed.

Shortly after Joanna Levesque went into a trio of cover songs starting with 'Nobody Gets Me' by Sza, the 'Weak' by SWV where she brought a fan on stage to sing the famous chorus, finished off with Teddy Swim's 'Lose Control', stating she wished she had written that song.

A short interlude allowed the singer to make a quick costume change as she appeared back at the top of the stage in a sequined skirt and bra top. She is like the original Sabrina Carpenter in the way that she brings a feminine sexiness that empowers women to feel sexy themselves without the male gaze. Crowd favorites, 'Too Little, Too Late' and 'Leave, Get Out' were performed back to back as fans sang their hearts out.

I strongly recommend fans stay til the end. Those who snuck out after JoJo's earlier hits missed out on the peak of the show - a feel-good dance party to 'Good Thing.' There was a lot of love and gratitude throughout the night that the crowd could feel during the show and take home with them.
