By SCOTT CUNNINGHAM // New album just released and four Oregon stops starting Saturday
Marco Benevento brings his captivating live show to Portland on Saturday, Apr. 8 with a date at the Wonder Ballroom in support of his new release the "Woodstock Sessions".
I first wrote about Benevento last spring for a longer profile piece surrounding his Fred Short project. His innovative approach to playing, modifying, and applying effects to acoustic pianos is something to behold. No one I've come across has a similar style, though he does give Elton John a run for his money in terms of his costumes and stage presence.
"Woodstock Sessions" was recorded live in a single take as part of the Applehead Recording series, located in Woodstock, NY, close to Benenvento's home. For the performance, he was joined by bassist Karina Rykman and Andy Borger on drums.
ON TOUR: Marco Benevento performs at the Wonder Ballroom in Portland on Saturday, Apr. 8. Doors are at 8:00PM and tickets are still available as of this writing. Wyndham and Lilah Larson will be providing support as the opening artists.
Portland is the first of four Oregon dates for Benevento. The other stops include HiFi Music Hall in Eugene (4/9), The Talent Club in Talent (4/10), and The Capitol in Bend (4/11).
