Manatee Commune returns to Mississppi Studios off release of sophomore LP

By MEGHAN KEARNEY // Get your tickets to catch Manatee Commune's live blend of hypnotic lulls and exhilarating beats

Bellingham, WA’s Manatee Commune will make his return to Portland, OR this Friday at Mississippi Studios off the release of his brand new LP. The self-titled full length is a follow-up to his debut release, Brush, which set 23 year old Grant Eadie apart as an electronically focused, classically trained multi-instrumentalist who uses those skills prominently in his music.

The new record (which you can stream above), released earlier this month, is full of beautifully composed, earthy sounds and features frequent collaborator Marina Price, as well as Portland’s own Moorea Masa on vocals across multiple tracks. It varies from the first record with arguably more downtempo house beats, evidenced on tracks “No Reason” and “Sleeping Puzzle.” Yet the record still has dispersed bits and pieces of that same otherworldly, tranquil electro sound, so significant and pleasurable from Brush.

A much-loved and frequent visitor to Portland, this will be the first show for Manatee Commune in the city post-record release. Expect visually stunning backdrops and an entrancing performance from Grant himself, who is known for live looping drumming, viola, and guitar into his explosive beats. And perhaps might we see some guest vocal appearances this time around?
