Mac Gollehon is by no means a stranger to the music industry. For decades Mac has been recording and performing with some of the biggest names in the business and the trumpeter has found himself working alongside artists including Duran Duran, Blondie, David Bowie, and Madonna. However, a musician doesn’t always have to be a hired gun. Mac has also been actively involved in his own solo work delving into the world of blues, jazz, calypso, country, and just about any other music genre you could think of.
Most recently, Mac has been exploring the world of experimental music. The subgenre is one that might not be for all musical tastes, but for those who dare to explore it, the very nature of the music allows virtually any musician to be unhindered by the usual confines of recorded music and instead allows expression in unique way and limitless possibilities. “The End is the Beginning” is the more recent solo album released by Gollehon. The album takes the transitional music tapestry of experimental music and weaves in a cinematic landscape. It becomes a musical experience where the familiarity of blues or jazz is merged with unlikely symphonious accompaniments to create a unique aural experience.
Mac recently took the opportunity to sit down and discuss the album, his inspirations, and his drives, as well as what fans can look forward to in the near future. There may even be a tale or two from his time on the road.
