It's kind of amazing when you watch something transform in front of your eyes -- from a crazy yet fabulous idea, to something very real and tangible, monolithically exciting, and wildly historic.
In this month's episode of "The Light and Limn," I interview Julie Madsen, Luke Strahota, Michael Joyce, the tireless organizers of next month's Louie Louie 24-hour Marathon right here in Portland, OR, as well as Dick Peterson, rock royalty -- and original drummer of The Kingsmen, the band that made that rock classic a mega hit: You'll hear all about the song's controversial beginnings (including the FBI investigation) as well as why it's now regarded as one of the most important rock n' roll songs EVER.
Most importantly, you'll hear about an unbelievably historic event that's going to SHAKE UP our beautiful city of Portland, in just the right way! Mark your calendars!: October 7 to 8 -- for 24 hours!!! YOU GOTTA GO to that show -- and in this third episode of The Light and Limn, you'll hear all the reasons why you simply can't miss it!
Conceived and curated by The Louie Louie Committee Committee (Portland's pivotal party pioneers behind Nuggets Night, Gotham A-Go-Go, Barfly, and more) the event will be held at AFRU Gallery and raise funds for Art Freaks Are Us, the non-profit community organization dedicated to the unapologetic expression of raw creativity by all.
