Lindsey Webster: A new voice visits Portland

The soulful Jazz singer comes to Lake Oswego. Billboard-topper will debut in Portland with Jarrod Lawson.

Woodstock, New York has long been a musical hotbed producing uniquely talented artists: one of its latest exports is the enchanting young singer-songwriter, Lindsey Webster. This week, Webster travels west for select performances including Monday, October 10th at The Lake Theater. She recently scored a #1 hit with her soulful original "Fool Me Once," the first vocal-driven song to top the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart since Sade's "Soldier of Love" in 2010.

Shanachie Entertainment will release Webster's anticipated label debut, Back To Your Heart, on November 4th. The album's title-track debuted at #15 on the same Billboard chart she topped earlier this year. Meanwhile, she has been appearing at notable festivals and club dates around the US and UK. "Lindsey is an extraordinary vocalist who effortlessly melds R&B and jazz in an appealing style that instantly connects with audiences, the world is taking notice!" states Randall Grass, general manager of Shanachie Entertainment.

With influences from Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera to Steely Dan and Earth Wind & Fire, there is an authenticity that reverberates through Webster's rich and soulfully honey-toned pipes. Joining forces with her husband, pianist and musical partner, Keith Slattery, the duo crafts evocative soundscapes that fuse the best elements of R&B, jazz and pop. Webster and Slattery will appear in Oregon for the first time with support from local stalwarts Chance Hayden, Tyrone Hendrix and Marquay Seamster.

Opening the show will be Jarrod Lawson, one of Portland's most notable and internationally recognized artists. Since releasing his eponymous debut album in 2014, the smokey voiced singer-songwriter and virtuosic pianist has been sending positive ripples around the globe with his powerful message-music. He has completed six international tours with prestigious highlights extending from Rotterdam's 40th Annual North Sea Jazz Festival to Japan’s Billboard Live. His debut release was followed by a limited edition vinyl EP “Jarrod Lawson At The BBC”, recorded at London’s historic BBC Maida Vale studios for broadcast on the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Show. Lawson has also co-produced two acclaimed releases with Portland-based soul singer Tahirah Memory and is presently working on a second full-length album of his own, highly anticipated for a 2017 release.
