Curtis Salgado: Coffeeshop Conversation #107 - heart Surgery in the rear -view mirror, he returns to performing

By TOM D'ANTONI // After multiple bypass surgery, he takes the stage at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival!

Welcome back to another OMN Coffeeshop Conversation at World Cup Coffee and Tea, NW 18th & Glisan in Portland.

Today is special. It’s the return of Curtis Salgado, what with his return to performing this weekend, on the Fourth of July at the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival.

He’s returning after a heart attack and multiple bypass surgery while he was on the road on the east coast. That’s a story.

While all this was going on he won three Blues Music Awards: his song “Walk a Mile in My Blues” won the top honor for Song of the Year. Listen for it at the end of the conversation. He also was named Soul Blues Male Artist and received the Soul Blues Award for his album The Beautiful Lowdown.

We always enjoy each other’s company when we do these things, so let’s just dive in.
