Metts Ryan & Collins talk with Ana Ammann at the Rainbow in L.A. - video

By Ana Ammann // Catchin up with the band down the street from the Whiskey at the famed Rainbow Bar & Grill for their after-party to chat about the show that night, the live to tape recording of their self-titled album.

The end of January always sees a migration of musicians headed to the Los Angeles area for NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, the worlds’ largest trade-only event for the music products industry, and mecca for people wanting to seek out the newest innovations in musical products, recording technology, sound and lighting.

This particular Friday night during NAMM weekend, a tribe of the Portland’s finest musicians in town for the tradeshow made their way from Anaheim to the Sunset Strip in Hollywood to catch local rockers, Metts Ryan & Collins perform at the legendary Whisky a Go-Go.

The band are: Geoff Metts - Vocals/Guitar, Dain Ryan - Bass/Vocals and Mike Collins - Drums/Vocals.  Each are veterans of the Portland music scene and can boast an impressive list of individual accomplishments.  Metts is an owner of Five Star Guitar (designated by NAMM as one of the world’s Top 100 music stores two years in a row in 2015) and member of Western Aerial; Ryan is one of the hardest working musicians in town also performing with Stone in Love, Ants in the Kitchen and Dirty Little Fingers; and Collins has worked with notable artists such as Earl Slick (David Bowie, John Lennon), Lisa Germano (John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan, David Bowie), Freedy Johnston (Rolling Stone "Songwriter of the Year), Dilana ("Rockstar Supernova") and just about every other major Portland artist you can think of.

I caught up with the band down the street from the Whiskey at the famed Rainbow Bar & Grill for their after-party to chat about the show that night, the live to tape recording of their self-titled album, and their goals to resurrect the Rock & Roll scene in Portland with their British Blues inspired sound reminiscent of Mott the Hoople, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones.

See Metts Ryan & Collins perform this Saturday, February 6th at Doug Fir with locals Redwood Son performing their West Coast Americana and soulful, “Hippie Rock” artist Sara Vitort. Doors 8:00 pm / Music 9pm, 21+ Only.  Tickets: $12
