By Bob Howard//Portland Bassist Extraordinaire, Lisa Mann, awakens her inner crone to the bone
Lisa’s menacing, growling, comes from a place deep inside her psyche. Lisa’s latest release “The Conscript” is a somber conversation between a mother and her son in an unnamed medieval village as the young man is being conscripted into war. Lisa says, “The music pivots between Progressive and Power Metal, with a galloping rhythm and a time signature based on Fibonacci numbers in the verses. This song is dedicated to all conscripts, and to those brave refuseniks who risk all to not participate.”
It’s been since high school that I’ve heard the term Fibonacci numbers. I had to look it up. For those like me, here’s the definition, “The Fibonacci sequence appears frequently in nature, most notably in the spiral patterns of plant growth, such as the arrangement of seeds on a sunflower head, the scales on a pinecone, or the petals on a flower, where the number of petals often corresponds to a Fibonacci number “
“The Conscript” is a powerful story with a prognostication for the times to come. The single is the second track that she has released from the upcoming album Prognosticator. Here’s the title track from the coming record.
