Portland Mardi Gras set for Feb. 6

By Scott Cunningham //  "Life is a Carnival" the theme on Saturday, February 6.

Portland's 6th annual Mardi Gras celebration takes place this year on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Wonder Ballroom. Hosted by the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus, the celebration has been recognized as one of the best in the nation by the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper.

Once again OMN is proud to be a media sponsor for this always-memorable event.

Billed as an evening of high spirited indulgence, the event brings to Portland the traditions of the Crescent City's social aid and social clubs. This year's theme is Life Is a Carnival, a nod to the terrific album and song from The Wild Magnolias, one of New Orleans' venerable social clubs.

The evening will pay tribute to the legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint, who died in November while on tour in Europe.

Scheduled acts include the Northside Skull and Bones Gang, the Bridgetown Sextet, the Too Loose Cajun and Zydeco Band, and a Portland all star studded group of musicians brought together for the event to celebrate the music of Toussaint.

Doors are at 7pm, with music beginning at 8pm. Prizes will be given away for the best costumes. In keeping with Mardi Gras tradition, a king and queen will be crowned. As a special treat, free king cake will be available.

Last year's event sold out well in advance, so go grab your tickets through the Wonder Ballroom. Tickets are $30 in advance.
