Who composes fanciful soundscapes mixing smooth beats with live instruments, and is based right here in Portland? Why, Emancipator of course!
Emancipator plays the Roseland on Friday 11/13 at 8:30pm and there are still tickets available for this show! Opening for Emanipator are Blockhead and Manatee Commune. Get your tickets for $20 presale. You can also check out his newest full-length album, Seven Seas, just released on September 20.
For those of you just tuning in, Emancipator is the stage name for Doug Appling. Hailing from Virginia, he made Portland his home a few years ago and quickly gained a following here as well - no surprise considering such unforgettable performances as at 2014's What the Festival in Oregon's picturesque Wasco County. Emancipator's distinctly mesmerizing sound is the marriage of sublimely smooth beats with live violin, guitar, drums, and the occasional brass. Best heard live as Emancipator Ensemble with the aforementioned full band accompanying, he's otherwise rarely seen onstage without Ilya Goldberg on violin. Emancipator is bound to draw a crowd every time as his renown increases with each impeccable set he performs. Don't miss it!
