DVD: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Live from Jacksonville at The Florida Theatre

Skynyrd still puts on a charismatic performance. If you’re going to pick a Lynyrd Skynyrd DVD or BluRay I’d highly recommend this one---you’ll certainly enjoy it.

Lynyrd Skynyrd needs no introduction; anyone with a pulse knows who they are whether you discovered them via your father’s record collection, on your own via rock radio or through ‘Guitar Hero’---you know a song or two by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Did I forget to mention that they are also in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? The band has been through ups and downs and have battled through adversity like a champ--each and every time. Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed in 1987 enlisting the help of the late Ronnie Van Zandt’s younger brother Johnny Van Zandt. Since then Lynyrd Skynyrd have soldiered on and continue playing consistently in the United States year after year.

There have been countless DVDs issued in recent years by Skynyrd that has left me asking, why? When the market is flooded with numerous live releases it’s no longer special and it becomes less meaningful. I’m happy to say that Skynyrd have issued a special DVD for a change; the new release captures a performance of Skynyrd playing their debut ‘Pronounced ‘Leh-’Nerd-’Skin-’Nerd’ and their follow up ‘Second Helping’ in their entirety. Without question two of the band’s’ most memorable moments that produced concert staples like; “I’ Ain’t the One,” “Tuesday’s Gone,” “Gimmie Three Steps,” “Simple Man,” Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and their cover of “Call Me The Breeze.” While the band has been whittled down to founder and guitarist Gary Rossington, along with guitarist Rickey Medlocke Skynyrd still puts on a charismatic performance. If you’re going to pick a Lynyrd Skynyrd DVD or BluRay I’d highly recommend this one---you’ll certainly enjoy it.
