By MATT HANSEN // Project lead by Trey Spurance (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More) will play direct support to France's Igorrr at Roseland Theater
Secret Chiefs 3 is the solo project of Trey Spurance which was started in 1996 while he was still in Mr. Bungle. And if you know of Mr. Bungle's genre-juggling approach to each song then you are surely well acquainted with guitarist Trey Spruance's ability to traverse genres. Spruance's compositions underwent several transformations when he started Secret Chiefs 3, sprawling throughout several genres as a result of SC3's revolving collective format.
As it's mystic bandleader, Spruance has organized Secret Chiefs 3 into several satellite bands, each serving a specific genre with names like UR (surf rock) or Ishraqiyun (neo-Pythagorean electro-folk). SC3 performances typically feature material from several of the satellite bands, which was the case when SC3 last performed in Portland in 2017.
Secret Chiefs 3 most recent release is 2020's Horrorthon, a collection of their horror themed songs that sounds like a soundtrack to an imagined 80s horror movie with excerpts from John Carpenter's Halloween. "Personna: Halloween Mix III Season Of The Glitch" on Horrorthon is the most ambitious cover of Carpenter's Halloween theme SC3 has ever done, and the perfect track to compliment your spooky season movie watching.
Together with France's Igorrr and Japan's Violent Magic Orchestra, Secret Chiefs 3 will play Roseland Theater on Sept. 30th, an assembly of weird music from all over the world you won't want to miss if you have a taste for the bizarre and extreme.
ON TOUR: IGORR / Secret Chiefs 3 / Violent Magic Orchestra at Roseland Theater on Wednesday, September. 30th, 2026. Doors 6:30PM / Show 7:30PM / (Tickets) 21+
