Toots and the Maytals swing through town Wednesday night as part of the 2017 Soul'd Out Music Festival. They will be appearing at the Roseland Theater in Portland.
Toots Hibbert is widely credited for coining the term "reggae", the musical style originating in his native Jamaica and popularized by artists like Hibbert, Bob Marley, and Peter Tosh.
Over the course of a career that has is now in its fifth decade, Hibbert has consistently demonstrated a knack for integrating soul and gospel elements into his core reggae sound. Their 2005 album "True Love" won a Grammy for best reggae ablum and their 2007 release "Light Your Light" received a Grammy nomination in the same category.
Their live shows are something to behold and this promises to be one of the best of this year's Soul'd Out dates.
