SOFI TUKKER at Theater of the Clouds on 10/29/2024

by Christina Hall

Sofi Tukker returned to Portland at the Theater of the Clouds. They started their set with the song "Bread" from their latest album of the same name. The set was eclectically decorated with large pillars, arches, grassy steps, a jungle drum pad gym, colorful LED screens and a light show. Your eyes didn't know what to focus on as Bobs Dance Shop joined the stage with Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern in choreographed dance moves. The Bobs (an acronym for Be Our Best) comprised Lucas Hive, Kameron Com K, Lito Garcia and Molly Anne. Their presence on stage with Sofi Tukker has grown in the past couple of years and the energy was infectious in the best way throughout the night.

A few songs in, Sophie complained that she was having back pain and that nothing seemed to work until…continued on to sing "Throw Some Ass." The crowd was given a dance tutorial and it appeared that someone from the crowd took it to another level and was bare-cheeked for part of the song. Shortly after, a few fans including two kids dressed up in costumes got to dance on stage.

The set slowed down but was still upbeat for "Hey Homie." The stage was sensually set up and lit in red for "Perfect Someone." There were more interactive moments throughout the night including Simon/Sofi Says to "Emergency" and dance participation to "Woof". There were many dance breakdowns throughout, most notably to the "Renaissance" remix that you might know from the White Lotus and "Purple Hat." Ending the night was a beautiful acoustic version of "Brazilian Soul" followed by the last song, which is also the first song they wrote together, "Drinkee."

The evening was never dull and concertgoers left with a rush of energy and positivity from the night.
