Red Bull Sound Select Presents: Rubblebucket, Candace, and Thick Business

By MEGHAN KEARNEY // A night of music and art curated by Treefort Music Festival comes to Doug Fir Thursday, Feb 23rd.

Another Red Bull Sound Select showcase is coming to Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge, Thursday, February 23rd curated by Treefort Music Festival and featuring Rubblebucket, Candace, and Thick Business. As usual, the show will be $3 with RSVP/$12 without. RSVP here to guarantee your discounted ticket.

Boise’s Thick Business will open the show bringing a small preview of Treefort Music Fest 2017 to Portland, prior to the March festival (tickets for Treefort are on sale now, get yours here). These bluesy rockers combine elements of progressive and low-fi garage rock with ruffling vocal mixes that bounce from soft jazziness to turbulent rock n’ roll.

Candace, female three piece shoegazers from Portland (formerly “Is Is”), will add a heavy dose of lady power in these times where it’s needed most and the trio is no stranger to gathering community around their music. Candace’s latest release, New Future, is a kind blend of rock and dream-pop reminiscent of acts like Beach House but with its own grungy signature.

Finally, bring your neon, and nothing less than your best dancing shoes for headliners, Rubblebucket, whose name alone offers a perfect non-classifiable description for their music and live sets. Multi-member, multi-instrumental, power-pop rock from Brooklyn put on a circus-like live show to go along with their goofy and carefree, yet joyfully addictive tunes. Rubblebucket will come to town fresh off the release of their dancey new EP If U C My Enemies. Expect to potentially carry a trumpeter on your shoulders, expect to pick confetti out of your hair for a week post-show, but DO NOT, whatever you do, expect to stand around lifelessly at Doug Fir for this show.

Rubblebucket getting crazy:

In addition to the music, this showcase will feature custom artwork from Portland’s Brett Bowers, who will be crafting up an original painting that will channel the colorful, wild nature of headliners, Rubblebucket. This painting will then be split into pieces and affixed to journals which will be given to the first 100 people through the door! Check out more of Brett’s work and follow him on Instagram.
