Quinn Brown aka Quiet Bison: A blend bending toward the future

By GAVIN MAJESKI // Quiet Bison's latest 2019 EP, “Nightfall” was inspired by the artist’s struggle with insomnia and is encapsulated beautifully with seven atmospheric, and densely textured tracks.

Blending experimental and glitched textures with future bass influenced electronics, Portland native Quinn Brown, better known by his stage name Quiet Bison, has been making waves in the electronic music realm for the past few years.

After releasing his debut EP, “Trials and Tribulations” in 2018 while still only a minor, Brown has since released two subsequent projects and is currently working on a debut LP. His latest single, “High Like This,” features pop artist Reo Cragun who has been featured on tracks with rappers Kid Ink, G-Eazy and even one of the biggest names in electronic music today: Flume.

Brown had a similar luxury when his track “Thimble” from his 2018 EP was placed on Flume’s “Hi This Is Playlist” on Spotify in the summer of 2019. Following this attention, Brown played a line-up of shows with contemporary dance/electronic artists such as Whethan in late 2019, and toured with Chet Porter and DROELOE in early 2020.

Brown’s self-described method of making music by creating textures that can aptly convey a mood or specific emotion. His latest 2019 EP, “Nightfall” was inspired by the artist’s struggle with insomnia and is encapsulated beautifully with seven atmospheric, and densely textured tracks that culminate with the ambient closer, “Godrays,” giving listeners a sense of ease and metaphorical sleep.

All of Brown’s music is accompanied by brightly colored, three-dimensional abstract album artwork. Brown says this technique lets fans create their own experience while listening and associate unique feelings to the ambiguous designs.

Brown’s previous projects are all available on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and Bandcamp, with his debut full-length record set to release in 2021.
