Nancy Wilson's Heart at iLani in Ridgefield, WA on 10-01-22 / Photos and Review

by BRENT ANGELO // Nancy Wilson's Heart just performed with her new live version of Heart at Ridgefield's iLani Casino Resort.  

Nancy Wilson’s Heart just played live here at iLani Casino Resort in Ridgefield, Washington. Her band is doing a few warmup gigs as they are getting ready to head out on a tour with Styx in Canada. Nancy Wilson’s Heart includes Nancy Wilson (on guitar/vocals), Kimberly Nichole (vocals), who was a finalist on Season 8 of The Voice, as well as 2019 Heart touring members Ben Smith (drums), Ryan Waters (guitar), Andy Stoller (bass) and Dan Walker (keyboards). Ben Smith and Ryan Waters also worked with Nancy on her 2017 side project, Roadcase Royale.

The iLani show touched on the different eras of Heart’s storied rock career. Their set would feature Heart classics that included “Kick It Out”, “Straight On” and “Even It Up”. Nancy Wilson’s Heart dug deep with “Nada One” from the 1978 Dog and Butterfly record and played a blistering version of “Mistral Wind” also from Dog and Butterfly that was one of the show’s best performances. There were nods to 80’s favorites as well that included “Alone” and “These Dreams”. Classic rock favorites “Crazy on You” and “Barracuda” got the crowd rocking and fans were also treated to some cool covers by Paul McCartney and Wings, The Cranberries and Led Zeppelin.

Nancy Wilson’s Heart encore saw live musical tributes that paid respects to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and Eddie Van Halen. The band is headed to a show in Seattle next and then off to Canada with Styx. It will be interesting to see if Nancy digs deeper as the band moves forward. Heart has had such a lengthy rock career and there is a lot of great songs to choose from. The show was a lot of fun and we will see what happens next for Heart.
