“Marti’s Music Kitchen” Launches Season Two on July 4th With Naomi LaViolette Interview

By MARTI MENDENHALL // “Creating this podcast is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done,” says Mendenhall. “I get to have a casual conversation with interesting people about amazing food and incredible music, two of the most fundamental elements of the human experience.”

Following a successful first year, Portland’s own Jazz Singer Songwriter, Marti Mendenhall, will launch Season Two of her food and music podcast, Marti’s Music Kitchen, on July 4th on Oregon Music News.  The podcast is set to take-off with season opener, songwriter Naomi LaViolette (Saving His Music, Lullaby Project, Oregon Repertory Singers). Last year’s Waterfront Blues Festival signaled the official launch of the popular food and music podcast featuring inaugural guest, LaRhonda Steele.

Season One reached an average of 8k-15k listeners per episode, with 20 episodes featuring musicians, chefs, and foodies, who sometimes cooked on the air, while sharing personal stories of the creative and human connection between the culinary and the melodic arts. Guests ranged from Mark Bitterman (The Meadow, Bitterman Salt Co), award-winning Blues act, Sister Mercy, former Music Director for Liberace, Bo Ayars (Elivis, Barbara Streisand) and current tribute artist and pianist, David Saffert (Liberace and Liza Live, Oregon Ballet Theater, Portland Opera), food stylist, photographer, and blogger, Carly Jayne (Love Like Salt), Executive Chef Juan Zaragoza (Hotel deLuxe) with musical theater stars Susannah Mars (Adventures in Artslandia, Portland Center Stage) and Merideth Kaye Clark (Wicked), Mark Bitterman (Bitterman Salt Co, The Meadow) to DJ extraordinaire Zia McCabe (DJ Rescue, The Dandy Warhols).

“Creating this podcast is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done,” says Mendenhall. “I get to have a casual conversation with interesting people about amazing food and incredible music, two of the most fundamental elements of the human experience.”

A stellar Season Two is planned, starting with Naomi LaViolette who takes over the kitchen at picturesque West Linn winery, Campbell Lane Winery. Naomi shares her recipe for healthy Fish Bowls, while the winery’s Tracy Campbell, shares the legacy of her family winery and lessons on wine pairing. Capping off the episode, Naomi sings an original song about grappling with the circle of life. The tag line to the podcast is, “The fun music and food podcast where anything can happen!” Look for episodes of the adventurous Season Two of Marti’s Music Kitchen on Oregon Music News, iHeart Radio podcast, iTunes, Soundcloud, and most major podcast outlets.
