John Prine in critical condition

By SCOTT CUNNINGHAM // Prine's wife has also been ill with Covid-19

In a statement released this afternoon on John Prine's Twitter account, it was revealed that Prine was hospitalized on Thursday after falling ill to the Covid-19 virus. It had been previously disclosed that his wife had contracted the virus as well, but is recovering.

The statement lists Prine's condition as critical and he was placed on a ventilator Saturday night.

Prine's career has spanned some 50 years with his unique blend of country and folk music. He is a multiple Grammy winning artist, most recently receiving the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 Grammy Awards.

As the virus spreads across the globe, we can expect more artists to fall ill. Manu Dibango and Joe Diffie have both succumbed to the illness in recent days.
