Jeremy Wilson talks about launching the COVID-19 Musicians Relief Fund
Needless to say, we’re not in the Artichoke Café for this episode, but we’re going to keep doing Cofeeshop Conversations until the doors open again.
On the phone with me is Jeremy Wilson who has just launched the COVID-19 Oregon Musicians’ Relief Fund.
At this moment there are no venues open for musicians to play and no pay for no play.
Of Course, he runs the Jeremy Wilson foundation which helps with musicians’ health costs.
This is a whole different thing. I thought you ought to hear it from him.
Here is his full media release:
The Jeremy Wilson Foundation (JWF), a 501(c)3 musicians’ health and services organization, has created a special donor-directed fund to provide financial assistance to local artists impacted by sickness or loss of work due to COVID-19. Donations made to this fund will be used to alleviate the medical and financial burden faced by musicians and music professionals based in Oregon and Clark County, Wash. during this crisis.
The COVID-19 Oregon Musicians’ Relief Fund was developed in response to unprecedented venue closings and performance cancellations across Oregon and Washington, which place the already vulnerable musical community at risk. Music professionals in our region have lost their primary source of income and are now struggling to pay medical and living expenses. Donations to this special fund will provide direct assistance to those in need and will be supplemented by the JWF’s social worker services, which connects aid recipients with resources and support as they navigate the current crisis.
Those interested in supporting the COVID-19 Oregon Musicians’ Relief Fund can make a donation directly through the JWF’s GoFundMe campaign (https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/covid-19-oregon-musicians-relief-fund1). Donations can also be made through checks made out to the Jeremy Wilson Foundation (memo: COVID-19 Musicians’ Relief Fund) and sent to The Jeremy Wilson Foundation, 1028 SE Water Ave, Ste 230, Portland, Ore. 97214. The application period to receive emergency financial assistance will open to the community on April 6, 2020.
The JWF has set a fundraising goal of $25,000 to immediately address anticipated need, with nearly $10,000 raised since launching the fund. For U.S. citizens, donations made to the COVID-19 Oregon Musicians’ Relief Fund are generally deductible for federal income tax purposes.
