James McMurtry in Bend on Thursday

James McMurtry is on the road during August with a handful of dates this side of the Rocky Mountains. On Thursday, he makes his only Oregon stop with a date at the Domino Room in Bend.

In the vast landscape of Americana music, McMurtry shines like few others. Last year's release "Complicated Game" was one of his best albums to date and few of his peers can match his accumen for assessing the American political environment. The clip below finds him in the KFOG studios performing We Can't Make It Here from his 2005 release "Childish Things". Given the political events over the last year, I'm struck by how prescient the song turned out to be in terms of tapping into the frustrations of so many people.
