Dante's 16th Anniversary Party 2-25-2016

By BRENT ANGELO // I Can LIck Any Sonofabitch In the House, the Yawpers and Supersuckers

Dante's 16 anniversary was a rock n' roll party and for good reasons. This club is a Portland live music staple and a great place to see live shows. The lineup for the Sweet 16 was solid. Local favorites, I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House started off the show with a rocking set. Michael Dean Damron is simply one of the best in Portland. The Yawpers, who are from Denver and in support of their album release had a cool acoustic rock sound. A highlight from their set was when they were joined by Metal Marty of the Supersuckers for an awesome cover of Jeff Beck's "Goin' Down". It was the headliners that stole this show. The Supersuckers are one hell of live rock n roll band in person. Their shows are always full of attitude, coolness and killer music. The Supersuckers were sadly sidelined by its front man, Eddie Spaghetti when he was diagnosed with stage 3 oropharynx cancer. The future of the band was uncertain, but this is no ordinary rocker. Eddie rallied back, he was the ultimate example of F**K Cancer and he beat it. It was a real joy just seeing him return to the stage and he played liked nothing had ever happened. Their straight ahead rock sound is always fun live (example their last cd Get The Hell), but they were now more acoustic, country and bluesy. This style stemmed from their current release "Holdin the Bag". The guitar work and performance from Metal Marty was a highlight as always. That guy just oozes rock. Even on a weekday, the place was packed and it was a party not to be missed. This really is one band that always leaves you wanting more. Welcome back Eddie. We missed you and the guys. CHA, CHA, CHA.....YEAHHHHHHHHHHH.
