Post Malone is a rap artist, who first burst on the scene in 2015 with his breakout song “White Iverson”. The success landed him a record deal and his first album, Stoney would reach triple platinum status. Post would follow up that initial success in 2018 with Beerbongs & Bentleys which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 along with breaking records on streaming platforms. He just released his new album, Hollywood’s Bleeding, which is already finding its early successes and he just kicked off his 2019 Runaway Tour in support of the release.

He has been an artist on the rise especially in concert. In 2017, he headlined a show at the Roseland Theater, a few months later in 2018 he would then sell out the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and he just sold out at the Moda Center. Initially when tickets went on sale, fans showed their frustrations online due the high rticket prices. He draws a younger fan base and in truth most of those fans can’t afford premium seats like the ones that were being sold for many hundreds of dollars. Ticket sales would eventually improve over time as costs came down to more manageable prices.

The Runaway Tour’s stop here in Portland showed Post's next level of production. The performance stage was a runway strip in the middle of two General admission pit sections staged in front of the reserved seating levels that was backed by massive video screens, fire effects and pyrotechnics. Even on the large scale, the set up gave the concert an sense of intimacy and brought the fans up close and personal to the artist. The show would kick off with the album’s title track “Hollywood’s Bleeding” along with a lighting system that would be a strength to the show’s success throughout the night creating stylish visuals and a moody atmosphere for the music. One new song shined in that environment. Post Malone teamed up with rock legend Ozzy Osbourne (along with Travis Scott) for the new track “Take What You Want”. Visions of Ozzy singing on the screens almost made you forget you were at a rap show and Post’s live performance proved to be one of the nights highlights. Post then switch gears as he grabbed an acoustic guitar to play his acoustic hit “Stay”. Hits like “White Iverson”, “Sunflower” and “Rockstar” followed with the huge crowd singing right along with him on the lyrics. Post ended the night first thanking his dedicated fans for all their support and then closed the show with “Congratulations”.

Austin Richard Post aka Post Malone is not a traditional rap artist and continues to surprise as a musician and a performer. At the 2018 Video Music Awards for example he jammed with Aerosmith and showed a different side. There is a rocker inside him wanting to get out, and you could see how much he enjoyed it.The Runaway Tour stop in Portland showed his evolution as an artist.
