By TOBIAS WISNER // A preview of how we party at Oregon Music News - we’re running down the sights, sounds, and bands that will be at our free 15th Anniversary concert at SE Portland’s iconic event space and music store - Artichoke Music.
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes - and in our case even longer - it’s been 15 years since the team at Oregon Music News set out to bring our readers the best of the best in terms of news for music fans in the city of Portland, the state of Oregon, and beyond. We flipped the switch at midnight on October 29, 2009.
Playing their music will be Three Leg Torso, reuniting the original trio.
Also in a short set prior to their CD release concert at the Old Church on Saturday November 2, Wonderly featuring Jim Brunberg and Ben Landsverk.
In addition, Darka Dusty and the Borshch Beatniks will regale you.
It’s been a wild ride to say the least. We’ve navigated (and are admittedly still mastering) the transition to a digital world. We’ve seen some great shows, covered some amazing events, spoken to some of the most talented acts in the state, and we show no signs of slowing down as long as there’s a scene to report on.
There’s a reason that we’re home to some of the best talent in the country, and why some of the biggest bands in the world view a Portland stop as an essential one along any tour. We’re beyond grateful to live in and be adjacent to such a wonderful musical microcosm, which is why we’re looking to give back in the best way we know how - by giving some live music back to the people of Portland with a free, all-ages show at the storied Artichoke Music studio and venue located in the heart of our Foster-Powell neighborhood!
Tuesday, October 29th is set to be a night for the ages, because we’ve collaborated with some great local bands and spaces to bring you a celebration worthy of 15 years in business.
For one, it’s hard to beat a free show, and the night at 2007 SE Powell Blvd from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. will come without a cover charge where the family is welcome to attend.
The bottom line? If you’re interested in a free night of good music at a space that has been serving Portland since the ‘70s, you might want to add this one to your calendar ASAP.
Join us for what’s set to be a night of excellent conversation between sets, an aural celebration for the ages, and a chance to meet and greet some of the staff members that bring you the news, reviews, previews, and everything in between that keep our publication going.
