By MATT HANSEN // Dark Italo act will play Portland again after completing a recent tour with Sextile
If you missed Nuovo Testamento in September when they played Wonder Ballroom with Sextile, then you're getting another chance to see the dark italo band, and without the usual length of wait in between tours. Nuovo are back to bring their infectious dance rhythm to Holocene on Nov. 19th, less than 3 months since the last time they hit Portland. The band has been on a hot streak since releasing their EP Trouble at the end of July, and the demand for their tours shows no signs of stopping.
Trouble continues the relationship inspired lyrics found on their last album Love Lies, and is not without at least one metaphorical threat of arson found in the lyrics similar to the one found on the track "Heat." Singer Chelsey Crowley's vocals search for passion as they reflect on love that is either fleeting or having an underlying danger to it. The single "Dream On" pairs riffs of house keys and bouncy bass as Crowley's vocals remain hopeful of better days ahead. The band is so inspired by 80s dance sounds that you might even catch a whiff of Aquanet in the crowd when they play songs like "Get Closer" which can seem like a cross between the synth pop of the Pet Shop Boys crossed paths with the horn section backed sound of The Jets or Jermaine Stewart.
