By MEGHAN KEARNEY // Seattle indie rockers return to Portland with a fresh new sound on new record, Voids
This Friday, April 14th, catch Seattle’s Minus The Bear performing at the Hawthorne Theatre (moved from the previously scheduled, Wonder Ballroom - all tickets honored). The long-time indie staple make their return to Portland off the release of their new record Voids. The newest in a catalogue of six LPs delivers a noticeable, yet extremely pleasing departure in sound from previous releases making way for what will certainly be a new live experience.
"Last Kiss" is the second single off of Voids, which you can listen to in its entirety here.
Differing from the well established progressive, math rock sound, Voids feels fuller with more intricate production, and slightly more melodic, pop sentiments (in a polished and enjoyable fashion, that is). Each song has its own catchy hook drawing an instant intimacy in comparison to recent past records which require more relationship building.
All of the signature Minus The Bear sounds remain woven throughout the record, and for a band with such a distinct sound, Voids does an excellent job of keeping things ever evolving with a fresh contingency.
The night’s stellar lineup also includes the energetic polished garage punk of Beach Slang, and one-man electronic goodness, Bayonne (one of OMN’s favorite finds from last year’s Sasquatch Music Festival). Show up early, these openers are not to be missed!
