Jack Heyrman: How he produced Dr. John's first and only solo albums / Coffeeshop Conversations @ Artichoke Music #390

By TOM D'ANTONI // In 1981 Jack Heyrman ran a small label in Baltimore, Maryland called Clean Cuts. Here's the story of how he convinced Dr. John to make his first solo album, Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack. It has always been in print but a new re-release on vinyl drops in August.

It’s a special edition of OMN’s Coffeeshop Conversations this time. At the other end of the Skype box is Jack Heyrman, an ex-label owner and producer and an old friend of mine.

His label was called Clean Cuts and it is most famous for Dr. John’s first solo album called Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack, recorded in1981. Jack also produced the follow-up The Brightest Smile In Town which was also solo.

The two remain the only studio-recorded solo albums of Dr. John’s career.

The Sundazed label is re-releasing the first one In August.

Jack is with me to tell the story of how it happened.

Welcome Jack Heyrman.
