By MATT HANSEN // JP Hasson (JP Inc. / Pleaseeasaur) answers our questions about his new project Hasco Enjoyments before playing Revolution Hall on Oct. 20th
I think so. I had initially sat down to make a new album of some sort and after finishing Massage & Spa, I revisited several old instrumental songs I had written and recorded over the years. They suddenly made more sense and motivated me to not fight it and just allow things to take shape. The name may sound like an edible arrangement company but Hasco Enjoyments is actually the next evolutional project by comedian and musician JP Hasson. If you aren't familiar with Hasson's work in bands like Pleaseeasaur or JP Inc. then you don't know the feeling of giddiness that his musical comedy brings to the stage, and I sincerely feel for you. The Hasco Enjoyments album Wow!, although, is Hasson's take on cinematic scoring which is even more of a distinct change from his previous instrumental album Massage and Spa.Allowing for Hasson to fully embrace his composer side, Wow! is a debut that is every bit as bright and fun as it's cover art. On "The Seattle Mariners Are My Favorite Baseball Team" begins in gentle melody of calming synth and percussion that could easily transform your solo late night drive into something movielike and thought-provoking. But when the whirr of synths blast off on "The Seattle Marininers..." you'll feel like you've been abducted by benevolent aliens ready to bathe you in warmth and light aboard their welcoming craft.Hasson was kind enough to answer a few questions before embarking on a West Coast tour with Pinback which includes playing Revolution Hall on Oct. 20th.Did you feel like taking a more instrumental approach to your music after you released Massage & Spa? What prompted that?
