The Goo Goo Dolls are currently on a tour to support the 20th anniversary of their landmark album, Dizzy Up the Girl. Their song “Name” from the album A Boy Named Goo made the world first take serious notice, but it was Dizzy Up the Girl that solidified them as pop rock and music video fan favorites. Dizzy spawned top ten hits like “Slide”, “Broadway” and included their number one hit, “Iris”.
So, this tour is special to the band and its fans. It gives the opportunity to hear all the fan favorites again and then hear some rarely heard live tracks from that album. Portland made The Goo Goo Dolls proud with its high energy and the singing of lyrics throughout. After playing of the album in its entirety, the Goo Goo Dolls would then treat fans to a second section of later hits and some deep cuts from their early days. Rare songs from 1990’s Hold Me Up and 1993’s Superstar Car Wash were featured.
The Goo Goo Dolls continue to write, record and tour. Their most recent album, Boxes is one of their best works and is a very underrated record showing their maturity and experience as song writers. As a band, they never follow the trends, continue to grow, make the music they want and remain a great band to see live.
