The Dead Daisies with Enuff Z'Nuff and RAR at Bossanova Ballroom on 09/23/22 / Photos and review

By BRENT ANGELO //  With the new album, Radiance due out in just a matter of days, Portland fans were given an early treat of hearing some of those new songs live before the official release.

The Dead Daisies are a hard rock band that first originated in Australia. The band was formed in 2012 by its guitarist David Lowy (The Angels/Red Phoenix/Mink). Their self-titled record was a fine mixture of rock n’ roll with touches of the blues. Its first single release, "Lock N' Load" (co-written by Slash), got people to really take notice. The Dead Daisies then hit the concert road and began to grow its fan base around the world by putting on its high energy rock shows.

To date, The Dead Daisies have released five studio albums, The Dead Daisies (2013), Revolución (2015), Make Some Noise (2016), Burn It Down (2018) and Holy Ground (2021). The group is set to release its newest record, Radiance (2022) on September 30, 2022. Special releases included Face I Love EP (2014), Live and Louder (2017), : The Covers Locked and Loaded (2019) and The Lockdown Sessions EP (2020)

The Dead Daisies have evolved as a band through those years seeing some of rock’s best musicians take part in the group. Singers have included Jon Stevens (INXS, Noiseworks), John Corabi (The Scream/Mötley Crüe) and currently includes rock legend, Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion).

The band has also included the talents from Guns N’ Roses alumni Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer as well as Marco Mendoza, (Whitesnake/Thin Lizzy) along with current long time members Doug Aldrich (Lion/Bad Moon Rising/Whitesnake/Revolution Saints) on guitar and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Foreigner, Ozzy Osbourne) on drums. The band has been called a super group over the years and for good reason. Sadly, singer and bassist Glenn Hughes recently came down with a throat infection and was not able to finish the band’s current US Fall Tour. Singer, Dino Jelusick (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Whitesnake) was brought in to cover the lead duties.

The Dead Daisies just came through town playing our own Bossanova Ballroom. The band took the stage and kicked off the show strong with an energetic version of "Long Way to Go" from Make Some Noise which got the crowd going.  With the new album, Radiance due out in just a matter of days, Portland fans were given an early treat of hearing some of those new songs live before the official release. The title track, “Radiance” was heavy live and “Face Your Fear” really rocked the crowd. Fans welcomed the new songs, which also included “Hypnotize Yourself” and “Shine On” like they had been around for years. The set would include some cool covers as well.

The Dead Daisies having been playing some Deep Purple classics like “Mistreated” and “Burn” in honor of Glenn’s time in the band, but in his absence covering vocalist, Dino Jelusick showed off his live talents paying his own respects to those classic rock tunes. There was a fun vibe all night, great energy between the band members and that made for one hell of a rock show for the fans.

Get well soon Glenn and Portland wishes you the best.
