Video premiere of "Rut" from Portland-based Chipped Nail Polish’s second EP, Bottom Feeder, out January 27th. See them perform at Bottom Feeder Fest, Friday, February 3rd at Alberta Abbey.
Jill Sullivan’s musical journey started with an electric ukulele and a bad manicure while studying at University of Oregon. Joining forces with a community of like-minded, female-identified musicians, she formed the surf-punk inspired band, Chipped Nail Polish.
Jokingly describing her genre as "puke"- a mix between punk and ukulele - the band is an evolving amalgamation of friends Sullivan met in the Oregon music scene.
“Rut” is the first single from their second EP, Bottom Feeder, out January 27th.
They tell us:
The concept for the EP is centered around the idea of bottom feeding fish in an ecosystem. "Most of these songs were written at a time when I felt like I was sinking, Sullivan says. However, the more time I spent at the bottom, the more I began to appreciate my flounder friends. Just as bottom feeding fish are vital to an entire food chain, our pain is required to experience joy."
Now based in Portland, Chipped Nail Polish consists of a full band and their live shows involve audience participation amid silly jokes and tender moments.
See them perform at Alberta Abbey for Bottom Feeder Fest on Friday, February 3rd, 7pm, alongside Gondos, Candy Picnic, Worry Wart, Katy and the Null Sets. Tickets $10 advance/$13 door.
