By MATT HANSEN // Sydney-based solo darkwave artist will open for Cold Cave at the Roseland touring in support of the new album ‘Deep Hate’
The name Buzz Kull may be one letter away from the word buzzkill, but Buzz Kull’s work is nothing that will ever stifle your party, he's quite the opposite actually. The Sydney based darkwave musician will play with Cold Cave this month at Roseland, touring in support of the new album Deep Hate which will drop on Friday February 13th.
It’s a fitting day for a Buzz Kull to release a new album; you either associate Friday the 13th with the supernatural or a bloated franchise of horror movies. Both takes are common interests to someone drawn to the shadowy world Buzz Kull (Marc Dwyer) creates within synthwave, industrial, and EBM. On “Just a Memory” the first single from Deep Hate, Dwyer’s haunting voice devalues our reality in favor of our experiences becoming murky recollections and no longer certainties of fact.
It's just the type of dark, probing subject matter Dwyer loves to tackle, like when he covered The Human League's "Darkness" last year. Because of his ability to stare into the abyss without blinking, Dwyer has established himself as a rising artist in darkwave music with his uniquely gloomy dance style and unmistakable voice.
Deep Hate will feature a remix of "Just a Memory" by Cold Cave, who will headline on February 28th at Roseland. Also on the bill is Berlin's Rosa Anschütz who will do a set of experimental cold wave fresh from the plunging temperatures of Germany. Be at this show if you want to hear dark music from three different continents.
