Bobby Torres: Coffeeshop Conversations #120 Playing Woodstock with Joe Cocker

By TOM D'ANTONI // What was it like to be onstage with Joe Cocker at Woodstock? Also tales of Billy Preston, Tom Jones, Eric Clapton's keyboardist, The Grease Band, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and the whole scene...from one who was there.

Thanks for coming back for another Coffeeshop Conversation at World Cup Coffee and Tea, NW 18th and Glisan in Portland. We’ve got a special episode today. With me is Oregon Music Hall of Fame Member, percussionist, composer and band leader, Bobby Torres.

Now most of us know Bobby from his many years here in Portland, but not everybody is aware that he had a long and thriving career first with Joe Cockers bands, and then with lots and lots of other top musicians. He even toured with Tom Jones

Did you know he played the first Woodstock festival as a member of Joe Cocker’s band? Today, we’re going to hear all about. The behind the scenes stuff that nobody but an eyewitness can tell us.

Let’s dive in.

Loved the interview with Bobby "Please"! Next time please ask about "Tom Jones" as I wanted to hear those stories even more than the Woodstock experiences. I saw Bobby play with Tom Jones and he is just awesome!
