Eric Johnson just came through Portland and played to a SOLD OUT show at the Aladdin Theater. He was in support of his newest release, Collage a collection of newly inspired covers and new originals.

The 2018 Ah Via Musicom tour brought the return of his original band mates, Tommy Taylor and Kyle Brock from his 1990 guitar album, Ah Via Musicom. The album featured his Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”. The show’s first set included some of the covers from his Collage album that included BB King’s “Rock Me Baby” and The Venture’s “Pipeline”. Eric also threw in a sweet solo, acoustic take on Led Zeppelin’s “Black Mountain Side”.

The band returned for a second set and played the Ah Via Musicom in its entirety. “Cliffs of Dover” still retains its power and force years later and the crowd roared at its start. Songs like “Trademark” shined with its bright tone that filled every space of the Aladdin. Eric has tone for days! “Righteous” simply rocked. The band really sounded tight and looked in top form.

Eric Johnson is well known for his guitar work, but he doesn’t’get enough credit for his vocal work. In the end, Eric Johnson showed he is still a force guitar wise and in concert.
