No Vacation and Luna Li at Aladdin Theater April 20, 2024 / Photos Review

By CHRISTINA HALL //

No Vacation made a stop on a warm spring day at Aladdin Theater in Portland for a sold-out show. A contrast from their last visit in February 2023 during a snowstorm. This was the second show of their spring tour, bringing Luna Li as support.

Luna Li started the night, playing her familiar dreamy guitar rifts and sweet melodies. She is currently working on a new album and gave a couple of sneak peeks for the audience, introducing the flute, a new instrument to her lineup that she has only been playing since January.

No Vacation took the stage playing Sad Valentine pretty much twice after the fans convinced them to do over due to the drummer's pedal meter falling off. Just as Luna Li had played multiple instruments, Alex and Nat could be found on the keyboard, cello, violin, synthesizer, and guitar combined. There were about equal parts instrumentals as lyrics in the best way; giving off a dreamy, summer, distorted, nineties-but-modern vibe. The band encountered a couple more hiccups where Harrison on guitar would fill in asking for grace as they were sorting things out on the second night of the tour. The crowd was easy to give grace, often yelling out encouragement and adoration for the band.

No Vacation and Luna Li were the perfect combination for the night, complimenting each other in their soothing and upbeat genre. Despite a few snafus, fans will look forward to their next visit to town.
