By Scott Cunningham // McCartney also releases statement on passing of Sir George Martin
Paul McCartney announced the first leg of a new North American tour this morning that includes his first Portland appearance in over 10 years. He will be at the Moda Center on Friday April 15th.
Today's press release promises a shuffled-up set list, new set, and musical selections spanning his vast catalog from the Beatles, through his work with Wings, and his stellar solo career. His run will be marketed as the One On One Tour.
McCartney has also released a statement commenting on the death of Sir George Martin. Martin, who passed away yesterday at the age of 90, helped launch the career of the Beatles by giving the group their first record deal after the Fab Four had been rejected by every other label in England.
"I’m so sad to hear the news of the passing of dear George Martin. I have so many wonderful memories of this great man that will be with me forever. He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me. He guided the career of The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George. From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I’ve ever had the pleasure to know," McCartney says.
A presale for tickets launches Thursday March 10 at 8:00 a.m. PST. Tickets can be purchased with the presale code 1ON1WITHPAUL.
