By SCOTT CUNNINGHAM // Five dates on our radar.
Just updated my calendar to map out some advance coverage of upcoming dates and thought I'd share five gigs that have my attention. These five acts range from bluegrass to Americana to straight-up funky soul.
Wood & Wire isn't quite full-on bluegrass, as their music packs a solid Texas roots-rock sound as well. Up-tempo, foot-tapping music to help you lay down some steps.
Appearing at the White Eagle Saloon. Tickets.
A bonafide rock legend possessing every accolade imaginable, Frampton has moved to more of a cut-down acoustic sound lately to great effect. He'll be appearing in support of Steve Miller, but I'm pretty certain Frampton will carry the night.
Appearing at McMenamins Edgefield. Tickets.
Moreland is out with a nifty new release "Big Bad Luv" that is as smooth as Americana gets. Grit and rawness in his vocals combine with some wonderful instrumentaion for a superb release. Of the five gigs here, this one is the one I'm most looking forward to.
Appearing at the Aladdin Theater. Tickets.
New Orleans funk with the new-school soul of St. Paul. I love everything about this pairing. Shorty has broken through to international stardom and is the highest profile NOLA artist today. St. Paul brings gospel-infused new school soul and R&B. What's not to like?
Appearing at McMenamins Edgefield. Tickets.
Newman's appearance at Revolution Hall has just been announced and tickets go on sale this Friday 7/21. Witty, folksy, and humorous. Get your tickets when they go on sale, this one will sell out well in advance.
