When Joan Jett started in the Runaways in 1975, she was a teenager, who simply wanted to play guitar. It was at a time in rock history when girls playing rock guitar was not widely accepted. She didn’t care and fought on in the Runaways until they disbanded in 1979 and then went onto a successful solo career.

Joan Jett found major success early with the cover of the Arrows "I Love Rock 'n Roll", which would go #1 on the Billboard charts for seven weeks. Rock radio loved her, MTV (when they used to play music) loved her and rock fans have always loved her. She is a heart and soul, rock n roller. She has turned out some great music over the years and was never the one hit wonder either.

Her last couple of albums “Sinner” and the most recent “Unvarnished” are straight ahead, solid rock n’ roll efforts. It was great hearing numerous tracks from the “Unvarnished” album live at her recent sold out Chinook Winds show. Her voice sounds as strong as ever and the Blackhearts played a great set of new and old. Joan Jett has been a force for decades and still rocks.

Off the stage, Joan is one who fights for what she believes in and she also started Blackheart Records, which gives other bands the chances they need. Joan Jett has a solid place in pop culture as a true, rock n roll artist. It was nice having her back at Chinook Winds for a more intimate and longer set list than what you normally get at the big venues.
