Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit appear at Keller Auditorium next Monday

By SCOTT CUNNINGHAM // Latest release up for CMA Album of the Year

Life is full of irony and the latest musical version of this observation comes from the Country Music Association. Over the weekend, Jason Isbell's latest release, "The Nashville Sound", was announced as a finalist in the CMA Album of the Year category. What makes the announcement fairly ironic is the fact that he has stated that the album was a move back toward rock and away from mainstream country. Not that he has ever really been trad-country in the first place. His solo career has been decidely Americana, a genre that exists well outside of the pop-country Nashville sounds of today. In fact, Isbell is up for Artist of the Year at this month's Americana Honors & Awards ceremony. Don't be confused by the categories, however. "The Nashville Sound" is a terrific album with lyrics that penetrate deeply, steeped in timeless themes. Lately, his live shows have tended more toward a rock 'n roll revival, which can only mean that next Monday's date at the Keller will be a must-see for his fans.

ON TOUR: Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit appear at the Keller Auditorium in Portland on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017. Showtime is 8:00PM and tickets are still available.
