Bill Phillips: Safeway Waterfront Blues stage manager's final festival - video

By TOM D'ANTONI // After 27 years, this will be his last festival.

He's not talking too much about why, but everyone will miss his smiling face, good cheer and expertise.

We shot a video interview with him in 2012. We wrote:

There are some folks you've never heard of who make the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival the internationally renowned event it is. For the past 23 (of the festival's 25) years, Bill Phillips has been stage managing, making sure the musicians get what they need onstage, getting bands on and off on time and generally being a happy presence.

We caught up (literally) with him at the start of the day on Thursday.

Stage Manager Bill Phillips talks to Oregon Music News about his 23 years of working the Waterfront Blues Festival from Oregon Muisc News on Vimeo.
