Karyn Ann – ‘Reverence’

(NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert)

Portland-based, Neo-acoustic, Soul artist Karyn Ann, is releasing her debut full-length albumInto the Depths this Sunday, September 20th at the Secret Society Ballroom in Portland.

A student of Blues, Soul and Gospel, the Bonnie Raitt/Adele influenced singer/songwriter will be backed by Mark Bowden (Kris Deelane & the Hurt) on Guitar, James Pearson on Drums, Nick Foltz (Lowlight) on Bass and Tim Karplus (The Breaking) on Keys.

In her own words:

I’m perpetually propelled towards songwriting, to explore and shed light on the duality of life every time my pen hits the paper.  That feeling of the more I know the less I seem to know. Writing is my avenue of expression and articulation, how I work through unknowns, fear and loss. As a friend once said of me, ‘these are not songs for music’s sake, these are songs for journaling.’

Sharing the stage with her that evening is songstress Stephanie Scelza  and rising Americana duo, Pretty Gritty.
